The 2016 Highwayman Trophy final was hosted by the inbred town of Thetford, Suffolk. With their peculiar genetics, John and Graham (I) fitted right in and look forward to conquering Thetford Golf Club's 6,672 yard course. Both players started the day with man flu, with Boydie further inflicted by a bruised knee.

Like an FA Cup Final between two powerhouses, the final promised a lot on paper, but rarely lived up to the hype. Both players having beaten the cream of the society to reach this point, were eager to add to their trophy legacy. A win for John and he would once again become the most decorated player in the society. A win for G-Mac, would be his third title.

The first hole was a par 3, which John nailed to around 15ft, opposed to mine, which landed far side of the green. Having seen how shit I was chipping on the practice area, I could see John had already chalked 1 up in his mind (and so had I). Fortunately, I actually controlled my Parkinson like grip and chipped to four feet. John missed his next two putts and I slotted home for an unexpected par.

The first four holes were like a Rocky film, as John was put to the ropes for a good twatting. After 2 more pars and a winning 6 on the 4th, John found himself down by four. From hole 5, John started to find his form, winning the 6th.

Hole 7 (G Shot hole), saw John slice his approach shot behind a bunker, whilst I placed mine to 10ft of the pin – it was looking nailed on for the hole. John had other ideas and produced a superb flop shot over the bunker, one bounce and straight into the hole, saving a half.

The comeback was short lived and by hole ten, the gap was 6. Another mini revival came on the 13th, but on hole 14, the game was concluded as both players scored bogeys, after poor drives.

The course was picturesque, the weather great, unfortunately, the quality from both players was not consistent, but with so much riding on the result, it was inevitable.

2017 WINNER - GRAHAM GRAVES

The 2017 was a close run competition, with five members being able to win the title, going into the final match. A big turnout at the final event, meant it was tough for the chasing pack, to catch the leader - Graham Graves.

The final match saw no changes to the top three places in the leader board, meaning Graham Graves picked up the trophy for the second time, making him the society's most decorated player.

The season was very competitive, with eight different winners!
